Taliban Reviews Military Repositioning in Eastern Afghanistan

DID Press: Ministry of Interior Affairs of Taliban has referred a proposal to reassess the status of two security outposts in eastern Afghanistan amid rising border tensions.

Local sources and security-related documents indicate that the positions in the “Damgilik” and “Tang-e Nangalam” areas of Kunar province are under review for possible relocation or dismantlement. These locations have recently experienced increased cross-border tensions and activity.

According to reports, the proposal has been forwarded for final review and approval by the interior ministry. Local observers say the move is part of a broader strategy to reduce friction in sensitive border zones and recalibrate fixed troop deployments in eastern Afghanistan.

The developments come as districts in neighboring Nuristan Province, including Barg-e Matal and Kamdesh, continue to face serious humanitarian and logistical challenges, with blocked access routes disrupting the delivery of essential goods, medicine, and fuel.

Meanwhile, reports suggest the deployment of two fresh battalions to eastern Nuristan. Security analysts interpret this as a gradual shift in Taliban posture from static checkpoints toward more mobile and maneuver-based units in border regions.

Experts say these adjustments may reflect efforts to maintain territorial control, manage border tensions, and prevent humanitarian deterioration without signaling a retreat from authority.
