Afghan-born Rights Advocate Rabia Nasimi Elected to London Local Council
DID Press: Rabia Nasimi, an Afghan-born researcher and human rights activist, has been elected to the London Borough Council representing the “East Acton” ward after securing 1,207 votes on behalf of the Labour Party.

Nasimi, who moved to the United Kingdom with her family in 1999 during the first Taliban rule in Afghanistan, is now regarded as one of the prominent success stories within the Afghan diaspora in British local politics.
According to official results, she won the seat in a competitive local election in west London, marking a significant milestone in her political career.
Over the past years, Nasimi has been actively involved in advocacy work focusing on refugee rights, social justice, and migrant integration. She is widely recognized as a leading voice within immigrant communities in the UK.
She completed her higher education at the University of Cambridge, where she earned a doctoral degree. Her election is being viewed by observers as a reflection of the growing political participation of second-generation migrants in the UK’s local governance structures.
The result has been widely welcomed among Afghan communities in Britain, who see it as an important step toward greater political representation and civic engagement of migrants in public decision-making.
