NYT: Iran’s Missile Capabilities Remain Largely Intact Despite US Claims

DID Press: A new report by The New York Times says Iran has preserved most of its missile infrastructure along the Persian Gulf, contradicting repeated claims by the United States that Tehran’s military capabilities had been largely destroyed.

According to the report published Tuesday, Iran still maintains access to 30 out of 33 missile launch platforms positioned around the Gulf region. The newspaper stated that recent intelligence assessments indicate Iran’s operational missile capacity remains significantly stronger than previously described by U.S. officials.

The report argues that Iran’s remaining capabilities could continue to influence the regional balance of power and challenge American strategic calculations.

Donald Trump dismissed the findings as “fake news,” claiming such reporting gives Tehran “false hope.” He also described media coverage questioning U.S. assessments as “disloyal” and insisted Iranian forces had suffered major losses.

Trump further claimed that Iran’s naval fleet had been effectively destroyed and alleged that the country no longer possesses meaningful naval or air power capabilities.

However, additional reports in American media outlets have contradicted those statements, indicating that Iran still retains substantial missile and drone capabilities despite recent military confrontations.

Analysts say the differing narratives highlight a widening gap between official political messaging and battlefield assessments regarding Iran’s military infrastructure.
