Taliban Shut Down Radio Bamiyan in Media Crackdown

DID Press: Local sources in Bamiyan province say Taliban intelligence forces have raided and shut down Radio Bamiyan, halting its broadcasts without issuing any official explanation or court order.

According to the sources, Taliban personnel entered the station’s office in the “Shahr-e Now” area about four days ago, sealed the premises, and ordered an immediate suspension of all activities.

Radio Bamiyan was one of the province’s long-standing local media outlets, known for its coverage of news, cultural programming, and social issues across Bamiyan.

The closure is being described as part of a broader pattern of restrictions on media freedom in Afghanistan since the Taliban’s return to power, during which dozens of media outlets have been shut down and journalists have faced increasing pressure, intimidation, and operational constraints.

The Taliban administration has not yet issued any statement regarding the reasons behind the closure of Radio Bamyan.
