Nabil: Silence on Taliban Sexual Violence Is Complicity in Abuse

DID Press: Former Afghan intelligence chief Rahmatullah Nabil has condemned reported sexual violence against women by the Taliban, saying that silence in the face of such abuses amounts to complicity.

Reacting to a recent UN report documenting 21 cases of sexual violence, including allegations of gang rape against Afghan women and girls, Nabil said that if the allegations are confirmed, they represent not isolated misconduct but a serious challenge to the moral and human legitimacy of Afghanistan’s rulers.

He argued that the Taliban cannot exercise full control over state institutions while denying responsibility for abuses allegedly committed under their rule.

Nabil also criticized the silence of some religious scholars, questioning how those who frequently speak about religious principles can remain silent in the face of such allegations.

He warned that silence in the face of violence is not neutrality but a failure of moral and religious responsibility, adding that the truth will eventually emerge and people will judge who stood on the side of justice.
