Trump Signals Progress on Iran Deal Amid Fresh Uncertainty

DID Press: New remarks by Donald Trump have placed negotiations between Iran and United States back in the spotlight, highlighting both signs of progress and continuing uncertainty over a potential agreement.

In an interview with Fox News, Trump said Washington was “close to a very good deal” with Iran and indicated that he preferred diplomacy to secure the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. He described Iranian officials as experienced negotiators, adding that while talks take time, he was “in no rush” and would pursue “another way” to end the confrontation if his objectives were not achieved.

At the same time, two U.S. officials told Axios that Trump is seeking to finalize an agreement but wants stronger provisions related to Iran’s nuclear activities. The officials said a new round of diplomatic exchanges is underway and could continue for several days.

According to the report, the current draft primarily includes an Iranian commitment not to pursue nuclear weapons, while containing few additional concessions.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Khorasan Newspaper expressed skepticism about the prospects for a comprehensive agreement. Citing past experiences, the newspaper argued that even if temporary ceasefires or limited understandings emerge, there is no clear path toward a lasting resolution of tensions.

The analysis further suggested that some of the optimism surrounding the talks could be aimed at lowering global oil prices and creating conditions for future geopolitical maneuvering.
