Taliban Launch House-to-House Searches Following Herat Protests

DID Press: Taliban have launched a house-to-house operation in Herat to identify and detain protesters following demonstrations over the arrest of women, according to local sources, who also reported intensified inspections of residents’ mobile phones.

Sources said Taliban forces began searching homes after recent protests in the western city, which were triggered by the detention of a number of women and were subsequently dispersed by security forces.

According to local accounts, Taliban authorities have also stepped up checks of mobile phones across the city in an effort to identify individuals who recorded or shared photos and videos of the protests.

Sources further alleged that pressure has increased on people using social media to report on the arrests and demonstrations. Individuals who posted related content online have reportedly faced threats and intimidation.

The sources said Taliban officials have also conveyed warnings through family members, urging people not to publish information about the arrests and searches. They alleged that authorities warned of consequences for individuals and their relatives if such reporting continued.

Field reports from Herat indicate an escalation in arrests, threats, and restrictions following the protests. Human rights observers say such measures reflect broader concerns about restrictions on civil liberties and women’s rights under Taliban rule.
