Afghanistan Nears Self-Sufficiency in Poultry Meat Production

DID Press: Afghanistan’s poultry industry has experienced significant growth in recent years, bringing the country closer to self-sufficiency in chicken meat production, according to new reports from the Taliban-led Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock.

Officials from the ministry said that substantial investments in chicken meat production, egg production, and poultry feed manufacturing have transformed the poultry sector into one of the fastest-growing segments of the national economy.

According to the ministry, domestic production capacity for both chicken meat and eggs has increased considerably over the past few years, with poultry farms in many provinces reaching sustainable levels of production. Officials noted that recent investments in poultry feed production and day-old chick breeding have played a key role in strengthening the industry’s supply chain.

Representatives of the Chamber of Agriculture and Livestock also emphasized that Afghanistan could achieve full self-sufficiency in chicken meat production in the near future if the process of allocating land is accelerated to investors.

Experts believe the continued expansion of the poultry industry could significantly reduce the country’s dependence on imports while creating employment opportunities, lowering market prices, and strengthening national food security.
