Taliban: Education Funded Through State Budget

DID Press: Taliban administration says education has received the largest share of the government budget among all ministries and state institutions, with costs from primary education to higher education covered by state funds.

Abdul Salam Hanafi, the Taliban’s deputy prime minister for administrative affairs, made the remarks on Tuesday during the announcement of the results of Afghanistan’s 2026 university entrance exam (Kankor).

Hanafi said the administration places special focus on education and higher learning, adding that a significant portion of government resources has been allocated to the sector.

He claimed that education in Afghanistan, from primary level to higher education, is provided free of charge and that related expenses are covered by the government budget.

According to Hanafi, supporting educational institutions and expanding access to education remain among the administration’s key priorities.

His remarks came as the results of the 2026 Kankor exam were announced, with thousands of applicants from across Afghanistan taking part in the nationwide test.
