UK Arrests 12 Over Alleged Plot Targeting Muslim Gathering

DID Press: British police have arrested 12 people over an alleged security threat targeting a major annual Muslim gathering in eastern England, with authorities investigating the case as suspected far-right terrorism.

Police said the arrests followed the identification of what they described as a “serious potential threat” to an annual Muslim event held in Suffolk, eastern England.

The gathering, held from 9–12 July, attracted around 15,000 participants. Organizers ended the event slightly ahead of schedule following security concerns.

UK Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said the investigation is being led by the Counter Terrorism Policing network and is being examined under suspected far-right terrorism.

She noted that the investigation remains in its early stages and that police will release further details when appropriate.

Mahmood also praised the swift response of security agencies and event organizers, stressing that society must remain united against hatred and extremism.

The annual gathering, organized by Jamaat Tabligh, is one of the largest Muslim religious events in the United Kingdom, attracting thousands of worshippers each year for prayers, religious lectures, and educational activities.
