DID Press: Afghanistan’s Ministry of Water and Energy has announced the signing of a $2 million agreement with Japan’s PMS Institute to implement water management projects in Spin Ghar district of Nangarhar province.

Under the agreement, 10 check dams, three water reservoirs, three irrigation structures and three canals will be constructed over the next two years. The project will also include the rehabilitation of one traditional water channel (karez).

The ministry said the projects are expected to provide irrigation for approximately 305 hectares of agricultural land and benefit more than 1,200 families in the area.

The initiative aims to improve water availability, support agricultural production and strengthen local livelihoods in Nangarhar.
