DID Press: Aimal Wali Khan, leader of Pakistan’s Awami National Party (ANP), has urged the government to address the country’s domestic and security challenges before entering into new international agreements.
Reacting to the signing of a joint defense pact between Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan, Aimal Wali Khan called on Islamabad to focus first on restoring effective governance and addressing internal security concerns rather than pursuing additional foreign agreements.
He criticized the Pakistani government, saying it currently lacks effective control over large parts of the country and faces persistent security challenges from the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which has carried out repeated attacks.
Aimal Wali Khan said the countries involved in the Mecca defense pact should take Pakistan’s internal political and security situation into consideration before moving forward with such arrangements.
The joint defense agreement between Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan was signed by the leaders of the three countries in Mecca on Friday.
Under the agreement, an armed attack against any one of the three countries will be considered an attack against all three members. The pact is intended to strengthen deterrence and collective security.
