Thousands Protest Trump Policies in Washington, Demand Voting Rights Protections

DID Press: Thousands of protesters gathered in Washington, D.C., on Saturday for the “Washington 2026: Defend the Right to Vote” march, denouncing President Donald Trump’s policies concerning voting by mail and other civil rights.

The demonstration was held near the Lincoln Memorial, coinciding with the 63rd anniversary of the historic 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. The same location was where civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his landmark “I Have a Dream” speech.

Independent Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders addressed the demonstrators, urging them to remain united and arguing that the struggle for civil rights is closely linked to the fight for economic rights.

Protesters carried slogans including “Trump, hands off our elections!” and “The dream is still unfulfilled,” expressing opposition to the Trump administration’s policies.

Several thousand demonstrators later marched along the National Mall toward the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial. Police blocked surrounding streets as authorities moved to manage traffic and security in the area.
