DID Press: Israeli airstrikes on several areas of southern Lebanon on Sunday killed at least four people and injured 20 others, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry, amid renewed tensions between Israel and Hezbollah despite a U.S.-brokered ceasefire framework.
The ministry’s Emergency Operations Center said two people were killed and two others wounded in Nabatieh al-Fawqa, while eight people, including a woman and a girl, were injured in the city of Nabatieh.
In Arab Salim, two women were killed and six people, including two girls, were injured. Four women were also wounded in Kfar Rumman, according to the ministry.
The Israeli military said the strikes were carried out in response to what it described as two Hezbollah drone attacks targeting Israeli troops operating in southern Lebanon. Israel has described areas where its forces are deployed as a security zone. Hezbollah has not accepted Israel’s justification for the attacks.
Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reported that an Israeli strike in Nabatieh al-Fawqa damaged the Ghandour Hospital, which had been out of service for several years. Other strikes reportedly damaged buildings and businesses in Nabatieh.
The latest escalation comes only days after Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon killed four people and wounded 23 others, underscoring the fragility of the ceasefire arrangements between Israel and Hezbollah.
