Afghanistan’s Shiite High Commission Reopens After One-Day Standoff

DID Press: Afghanistan Shiite High Commission said its office in Kabul has reopened to the public a day after it was surrounded by forces from the Taliban’s Ministry of Justice, with its activities continuing without interruption.

The commission said in a statement on Wednesday, September 9, that its office doors are open to visitors and that its activities are continuing without interruption.

The statement came one day after forces from the Taliban’s Ministry of Justice surrounded the commission’s office in Kabul.

According to reports, the standoff ended following the intervention of Taliban intelligence forces.

The Afghanistan Shiite High Commission has not so far provided an explanation for the surrounding of its office or details about the intervention by Taliban intelligence forces.

The commission includes former members of parliament, religious scholars, and Hazara and Shiite community figures.
