DID Press: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy has announced that a super tanker carrying more than 2 million barrels of crude oil exploded and caught fire after striking a sea mine south of the Strait of Hormuz.

According to the IRGC, the tanker had switched off all its radar and navigation systems and ignored warnings from Iran’s Navy as it attempted to pass through the unauthorized southern route of the Strait of Hormuz. It then struck a sea mine.
The IRGC Navy warned vessel owners and crews operating in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman that using unauthorized routes would make vessels responsible for the consequences. It stressed that it would respond firmly to any activity that disregards the security of the Strait of Hormuz.
