Taliban Called on Ulema Not to Attend Indonesian Conference

A trilateral summit on Afghan peace and the fight against regional terrorism among the Ulema of Afghanistan, Indonesia and Pakistan is scheduled to be held in the near future in Indonesia.

A trilateral summit on Afghan peace and the fight against regional terrorism among the Ulema of Afghanistan, Indonesia and Pakistan is scheduled to be held in the near future in Indonesia.
Taliban group meanwhile called on the Ulema of Afghanistan not to attend the conference, the group said in a statement.

However, the high peace council of Afghanistan reacted against the statement and called on Taliban to attend a religious debate with scholars.

“When Taliban want to boycott the presence of Ulema in Indonesia, then, we ask the Taliban to hold a debate with the Ulema of Afghanistan and any other Islamic country,” said Sayed Ehsan Taheri, the spokesman for the Peace Council.
Meanwhile, Kabul Ulema Council vowed that Afghan Ulema will participate at the conference and Taliban should support peace summits as well.

This comes as the presidential palace suggested a peace offer to the world at “Kabul Process-2” and asked the Taliban to come to negotiation table.
Taliban have still not commented on the peace offer, but Gulbuddin Hekmatyar said in an interview that some provinces should be given to Taliban.
