The Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has reportedly said that his government has facilitated a meeting between US and Taliban officials on Afghan peace and that the talks will be held in the near future.
The reports say that Khan, who addressed an event in Peshawar city on Friday, said the meeting will take place on Monday, according to Times of Islamabad.
Media reports indicate that the meeting will take place either in Pakistan or in the United Arab Emirates.
Sources from Afghanistan political parties said the meeting will take place between the US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad and a number of Taliban officials.
The sources added that Afghanistan National Security Advisor Hamdullah Mohib will also appear in the meeting.
According to Imran Khan, Islamabad has convinced the Taliban leaders to negotiate with America.
“The country (US) which mocked Pakistan for its approach, asked us for help to bring Afghan Taliban to table for the peace process,” lamented Imran.
“I was called ‘Taliban Khan’ when I said that we can’t solve the issue without dialogue,” he added.
