Direct Talks with Taliban to Begin Next Week: HPC

The head of Afghan High Peace Council (HPC) secretariat M. Akram Khpalwak announced that direct peace talks with Taliban will begin next week (Saturday).
“HPC has taken all measures to start direct peace talks with Taliban,” said Mr Khpalwak at a session of the body.
Mr. Khplawak underlined that the council is also in contact with the Taliban and expects the group to respond to the start of direct peace talks and to introduce its qualified representatives for the talks.
“The government is pushing to create a trusting climate in the country to start the direct talks with Taliban, and the Afghan people will own and led the peace process,” he added.
On the other hand, the head of HPC secretariat said that Islamic clerics summit will be held next week hosted by Saudi Arabia in Mecca.
According to him, the religious scholars from various Islamic countries, including Afghanistan, Pakistan, Indonesia, and other Islamic countries will attend the meeting.
Mr Khpalwak stressed that the Saudi Meeting to bring Taliban to negotiation table will be highly effective.
