The Independent Election Commission (IEC) spokesman Sayed Hafizullah Hashimi said Friday that security agencies assured to reopen the central and some provincial offices of the IEC’s offices.
“the IEC has made its efforts to open its offices and this problem is expected to be solved this week,” the IEC spokesman Sayed Hafizullah Hashimi said. “the closure of the central office and some of the provincial offices of the commission has delayed the implementation of some work,” he added.
The IEC’s offices were closed by protesters who are the supporters of candidates that were disqualified by the Electoral Complaints Commission (ECC).
The protesters closed the IEC’s central as well as some of the provincial offices about two weeks ago.
According to Hafizullah Hashimi, the provincial offices of the commission have been closed in eight provinces, including Badakhshan, Kunduz, Bamyan, Baghlan, and Nangarhar.
The ECC disqualified 35 candidates for Wolesi Jirga and sent the final list to the election commission.
The parliamentary and district elections of Afghanistan is expected to be held on 20 October 2018.
