Following news published about US-Taliban agreement on Afghan peace process, president Ghani made clear the government’s fundamental lines during a video message on Monday afternoon.

Addressing the nation, president Ghani called on Taliban to listen to the voice of the nation and join peace process instead of proxy war for foreigners.
“No Afghan wants foreign troops to remain in their country. The government is committed to ending the war and establish peace,” he said.
President Ghani also assured the nation that their rights and the country’s sovereignty will be protected. People’s rights will not be compromised in the name of peace.

Mr Ghani called on Taliban to engage in direct talks with government.
“The presence of foreign troops in the country is based on a necessity and they will not remain forever,” he said, adding that “Taliban has two choices – to either stand with the people of Afghanistan or be used as a tool by other countries.”
However, the political movements are uncertain about the government’s serious and decisive stance on the peace process.
