Leading a high-level government delegation, President Ashraf Ghani landed in northern Balkh province on Tuesday morning.
Arriving in Mazar-e Sharif city, President Ghani is going to separately meet civil and military officials, elders, and influential people of Balkh province, said the presidential palace said in a statement.
According to the statement, the purpose of the trip is to assess the general security status of the province.
The visit comes as the security situation deteriorated in northern Afghanistan and the Taliban have taken control of many areas. But the government has not implemented any plan to liberate those areas.
