The south-east part of the country will be considered as a safe place for peace talks between the Taliban group and the government of Afghanistan, said Paktia governor Shamim Katwazai.
“Talks underway in the south-east between ethnic elders and Taliban members,” said the provincial governor.
According to him, local elders have asked the government and armed Taliban to express their conditions in this regard.

According to Mr. Katwazai, these elders will be qualified by both the government and the Taliban to declare the province a peaceful place, and later this will be implemented in other provinces.
“17 sessions have been held so far to establish peace covering all districts of the province,” Mr. Katwazai added.

The government of Afghanistan declared ceasefire since 27th of Ramadan month and the Taliban group declared three-day Eid ceasefire. However, Taliban have rejected the one-year ceasefire announced by president Ghani.
