217, including foreigners Arrested over Alleged Drug Trafficking

Afghan officials at the judicial and justice center countering narcotic drugs said during a press conference on Tuesday that the administration has recorded 159 cases of drug trafficking from around the country in the second quarter of the year.

“217 people have been arrested on charges of these cases, including 14 women and one foreign citizen,” said Khalid Muwahhid, a spokesman for the judicial and justice center.
The reviewing and laboratory management of the judicial center has sent all cases and suspects for further investigation to the prosecutor general’s office of the center after reviewing the cases.
Among the detainees, there were 48 people who were transferring heroin using luggage from Hamid Karzai international airport to India and Saudi Arabia.

According to the officials, more than 380 kilograms of heroin, about 900 kilograms of opium, dozen kilograms of glass and solid chemicals, alcoholic beverages, and psychotropic tablets have been seized.
“During the second quarter of this year, 228 people, including 9 public service employee, 14 women and one foreigner were sentenced to 1 to 20 years in prison by the primary court,” Mr Muwahhid added.
