Land Allocated for 9,000 Returning Migrant Families in Afghanistan

DID Press: Taliban administration says land has been distributed to around 9,000 returning migrant families over the past week across multiple provinces as part of an ongoing resettlement programme.

Hamdullah Fetrat announced that residential plots were allocated in the provinces of Nangarhar, Laghman, Zabul, Farah, Bamyan, Sar-e Pol, Samangan, Balkh, Jawzjan, Kunduz, and Ghazni.

He said the process of resettling returnees—particularly those arriving from Iran and Pakistan—is continuing, with authorities aiming to establish planned residential townships for permanent housing solutions.

According to Fetrat, a special commission tasked with migrant affairs is overseeing identification, registration, and land distribution, and the programme is expected to expand further in the coming weeks.

The announcement comes amid a growing influx of Afghan returnees from neighbouring countries, raising concerns over housing capacity, employment opportunities, and access to basic services.

No detailed information has yet been released regarding infrastructure, funding, or completion timelines for the planned settlements.
