UN Says Alleged Pakistani Airstrikes Kill 13 Afghan Civilians, Including 11 Children

DID Press: UN expressed deep concern over civilian casualties in eastern Afghanistan, reporting that alleged Pakistani airstrikes in the provinces of Kunar, Khost, and Paktika have killed at least 13 civilians, including 11 children.

The UN said the reported strikes also left 14 people injured, with residential areas allegedly targeted in multiple locations.

Speaking at the daily press briefing in New York, UN Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq said information received from local authorities indicated that several separate attacks struck civilian homes, causing significant loss of life.

He added that the United Nations is closely monitoring the situation and has called on all parties to provide full clarification regarding the incidents.

The UN stressed that the protection of civilians is a binding obligation under international humanitarian law and that targeting residential structures is unacceptable under any circumstances.

The organization also called for a transparent and independent investigation into the reported strikes and said it stands ready to assist affected communities.

No official response from Pakistan has been confirmed so far.
