TAPI Pipeline Project Advances in Afghanistan With 116 km of Pipeline Laid

DID Press: Taliban’s Economic Deputy Prime Minister’s Office says 116 km of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline has so far been laid across Afghanistan, while another 135 km of the route has been prepared for installation.

The office said the project has made significant progress, with 116 km of pipeline already installed and 135 km of the remaining route prepared for construction.

According to the Taliban authorities, 38 km of the pipeline has so far been placed underground. Under the current plan, pipeline installation in Afghanistan is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.

The Economic Deputy Prime Minister’s Office also said field surveys and the design of a gas distribution network in Herat are expected to begin soon. Officials said bringing TAPI gas to the city could support hundreds of industrial and manufacturing plants and create thousands of jobs.

The authorities added that TAPI gas is also expected to be used for electricity generation, potentially reducing Afghanistan’s reliance on imported power.
