Taliban Agriculture Minister Arrives in Uzbekistan for International Food Security Forum

DID Press: Taliban Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock Attaullah Omari has arrived in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, to attend an international forum on food security and sustainable development.

Omari is visiting Uzbekistan at the official invitation of the country’s Ministry of Agriculture and is scheduled to participate in the Global Technical Forum of Landlocked Developing Countries on Food Security and the Sustainable Development Goals, being held in Tashkent on October 7–8. The forum is jointly organized by Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Agriculture and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

According to Afghanistan’s Ministry of Agriculture, the visit will provide an opportunity to discuss expanding bilateral and regional cooperation with Uzbekistan in agriculture, irrigation, livestock, trade and investment.

The Afghan delegation is also expected to hold meetings on the sidelines of the forum with officials and representatives from participating countries to discuss agricultural exports, trade, investment opportunities, and the exchange of technical knowledge and expertise.

The forum will address food security, climate-resilient agriculture, efficient use of land and water resources, innovation, access to new markets and sustainable financing for landlocked developing countries.
