5 Killed in Herat Gunmen Attack

Gunmen attacked PD-6 headquarter in western Herat province on Saturday evening, killing five and wounding four others, according to the Interior Ministry.
Herat governor’s spokesman Jelani Farhad said five people, including two policemen and three civilians were killed in the attack.
Four others were wounded, he added.

According to the spokesman, one of the gunmen was killed.
The Interior Ministry spokesman Najib Danish, meanwhile, said the security forces have started an operation to the clear the area.

In a separate attack, at least five members of the security forces were killed after their checkpoint came under attack by insurgents in the Kandahar, according to local officials.
Aziz Ahmad Azizi, a spokesman for the provincial governor, said that two other policemen were wounded in Saturday’s attack in the Spin Boldak district.
According to him, 7 Taliban insurgents were killed and six were wounded in the fighting.
