Taliban fighters killed eight election commission employees on Saturday night inside a district center in western Kandahar province, officials said Sunday.

Kandahar police command said the explosions took place around 2:00 last night in Maruf district of the province.
“Civilians have suffered casualties but the number of casualties is not yet clear,” Kandahar police commander said, confirming the incident.
The head of provincial election commission, however, said that 8 employees of the commission lost their lives during the incident.
Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The start of the seventh round of talks between the US and Taliban in Qatar coincided with the escalation of attacks by both sides.
