Many Countries Invited to Attend US-Taliban Deal ceremony: Qatari Envoy

Qatar’s special envoy to Afghanistan, who arrived in Kabul Sunday to discuss Afghanistan’s peace process, says several key countries and organizations involved in the Afghan peace process have been invited to attend the signing ceremony of a US-Taliban peace deal in Doha.
Qatar’s Special Envoy to Afghanistan Dr. Mutlaq bin Majed Al Qahtani met President M. Ashraf Ghani and a number of Afghan politicians during a visit to Kabul, where he discussed a wide range of issues.
During the meeting, they reviewed the bilateral cooperation; the peace talks between the United States and Taliban in Doha; the de-escalation agreement; the signing on an agreement to end the war in Afghanistan at the end of the month; the intra-Afghan negotiations and the exchange of prisoners between the two sides; in addition to issues of mutual concern.
US president Donald Trump also said that he is ready to sign a peace deal with the Taliban in Afghanistan if a temporary truce holds in America’s longest war.
“Time to come home,” he said. “They want to stop. You know, they’ve been fighting a long time. They’re tough people. We’re tough people. But after 19 years, that’s a long time.”
If the truce proves a success, it will be followed by the signing of the peace accord on February 29.
