Ghafoor Liwal Slams Pakistan Over Taliban Opposition Meeting: “Don’t Seek Medicine from a Poison Vendor”

DID Press: Former Afghanistan ambassador to Iran, Ghafoor Liwal, has strongly criticized Pakistan for hosting a recent gathering of Taliban opposition figures, calling Islamabad “the main cause of Afghanistan’s destruction.”

In a sharply worded commentary, Liwal condemned Pakistan’s involvement in Afghan affairs, asserting that “everything that has come from Pakistan is poison.” He added: “Pakistan exports nothing to Afghanistan except the filth of its intelligence swamps.”

The former diplomat accused Islamabad of playing a historic role in destabilizing Afghanistan, tracing interference back to the 1970s during the republic of Mohammad Daoud Khan, when Pakistan allegedly supported the militarization of Afghan groups under the guise of jihad.

Liwal also issued a warning to fellow Afghans: “No intelligent Afghan who claims to seek good for Afghanistan should go to Pakistan for anything. If your family is sick, you don’t go to a poison shop to find medicine.”

His remarks were a direct response to the recent Islamabad conference, which brought together several opponents of the Taliban regime. The event has been met with widespread criticism from Afghan journalists, analysts, and social media users, who question both the timing and the motives behind Pakistan’s facilitation of the gathering.

Liwal’s comments reflect deep-rooted mistrust among many Afghans toward Pakistan’s role in their country’s political affairs — a sentiment that continues to polarize Afghan civil and political discourse.
