Atwan: Trump Is Not Trustworthy; US War on Iran Failed to Achieve Its Goals

DID Press: Prominent Arab political analyst Abdel Bari Atwan has criticized recent statements by US President Donald Trump, arguing that Washington failed to achieve any of its declared objectives in its confrontation with Iran and instead ended up strengthening Tehran’s position.

Atwan, editor-in-chief of the newspaper Rai al-Youm, said in a recent analysis that Trump’s statements are contradictory and lack credibility, adding that they should not be taken seriously.

He claimed that the United States’ military campaign against Iran did not achieve its strategic goals, while Iran maintained its positions and emerged stronger after what he described as the latest round of negotiations in Islamabad.

Referring to Trump’s earlier threats about “destroying Iranian civilization” and “changing the entire system,” Atwan said none of these threats materialized, and Iran’s political structure remained intact without collapse.

The analyst also reviewed what he described as battlefield developments, claiming that the US suffered heavy losses, including the downing of more than 20 advanced aircraft such as F-35s, F-15s, and an AWACS surveillance plane.

Atwan argued that Iranian resilience and popular support turned the conflict into a multi-front war of attrition, which allegedly resulted in strikes on US bases across the Gulf and the wider Middle East.

He further stated that Iranian missiles and drones reached deep into Israeli-controlled territory, targeting areas including Tel Aviv, Haifa, Acre, Dimona, and Safed.

According to his analysis, Trump’s reported appeal to the Chinese president to block advanced weapons transfers to Iran is, in his view, a clear indication of “Washington’s strategic defeat” and the strengthening of a China–Russia–Iran alignment.

Atwan concluded by predicting further developments in the coming days and weeks that would more clearly expose what he described as the strategic failure of the United States.
