Taliban Enacts Law on Reviewing Property of Absent Persons

DID Press: Ministry of Justice of the Taliban administration announced that a new law on the review of movable and immovable property belonging to absent individuals has been officially published in the government gazette and brought into force after approval by the Taliban leadership.

The ministry stated that the law consists of an introduction, four chapters, four sections, and 31 articles, and its implementation has been assigned to a dedicated office for the review of movable and immovable assets of absent persons under the military deputy branch of the Supreme Court.

According to the provisions of the law, procedures for safeguarding and managing the property of missing or absent individuals are defined, along with mechanisms for how these assets are to be protected by the authorities and eventually returned to rightful owners.

The legislation also stipulates that properties not currently under any individual’s control and at risk of seizure will be placed under government protection to prevent potential appropriation.
