WHO: Afghanistan Facing Severe Child Malnutrition Crisis

DID Press: World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that Afghanistan is facing a deepening humanitarian crisis, with an estimated 3.7 million children under the age of five expected to suffer from acute malnutrition in 2026.

In a new report, WHO said that around 95,000 children could develop severe acute malnutrition with serious medical complications.

The agency identified widespread poverty, food insecurity, disease outbreaks, climate change, and limited access to healthcare services as key drivers of the worsening situation.

WHO added that, in coordination with the Afghanistan humanitarian fund, essential nutrition services are being provided across health facilities nationwide, equipped with medical supplies and treatment resources for severely malnourished children.
