North Korea Moves to Equip Navy With Nuclear Weapons

DID Press: Kim Jong Un has announced that North Korea has begun equipping its navy with nuclear weapons as part of a broader strategy to strengthen military deterrence and enhance the country’s maritime strike capabilities.

State media reported that Kim said the process of integrating nuclear weapons into naval forces is already underway, describing it as a key component of Pyongyang’s efforts to bolster its strategic deterrent against what it called growing external threats.

According to the North Korean leader, strengthening the combat readiness of the navy is an important element of the country’s defense policy and long-term military modernization plans.

The announcement comes as North Korea continues to expand its nuclear and missile programs while simultaneously investing in the development of more advanced submarines and warships capable of operating over longer distances.

Security analysts say the deployment of nuclear-capable naval platforms could significantly enhance North Korea’s second-strike capability and alter the strategic balance on the Korean Peninsula and across the wider East Asian region.

The move is expected to draw close attention from regional powers and allies, particularly amid ongoing security tensions involving North Korea, the United States, South Korea and Japan.
