Taliban Envoy Calls for Sunni-Shia Unity at Ashura Event
DID Press: Taliban’s Consul General in Mashhad has emphasized unity between Sunni and Shia Muslims, describing Ashura as one of the Islamic world’s greatest spiritual assets and calling for stronger Islamic brotherhood.

Speaking at an Ashura mourning ceremony attended by a large number of Afghan migrants at the Shahid Mesbah Hussainiya in Mashhad, Noor Mohammad Motawakel said Ashura carries a message of unity, justice and dignity for the Muslim community.
He highlighted the significance of Imam Hussein’s uprising in the Islamic world and stressed the importance of adhering to the Quran and the traditions of Islam while strengthening solidarity among Muslims.
Motawakel also urged Muslims to resist efforts aimed at sowing division within the Islamic community, saying unity was essential to confronting common challenges.
“Sunni and Shia Muslims are members of one nation and one Islamic community,” he said, adding that both sects should preserve cohesion and work together in pursuit of shared Islamic values.
