Afghan Cricket team set off to Carrabin for WI series


Afghanistan cricket team has left for West Indies to play the One Day International (ODI) and Twenty-Twenty series against the host side, an official said on Wednesday.
The national squad departed for the Carrabin on Tuesday afternoon from Indian where they attended a training camp in Greater Noida Stadium.
The team would play three ODI and as many 20-20 limited over matches against the T-20 champion West Indies (WI), said Farid Hotak, spokesman for the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB).
From June 2nd to 5th both sides would play the T-20 series while the ODI would be played from 9th to 14th. Quoted from (Pajhwok).
A head of the formal series starts there would be practice match so the player would get familiar with the condition.
Prior to their departure, the management of ACB encouraged the squad to play with national hailed their training and preparations.
Earlier The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has announced that Afghanistan would play three Twenty-20 and as many one-day internationals (ODI) during their tour in May/June this year, a news report said on Wednesday.
It will be the first time that the Afghan cricket team will be playing the West Indies in a series on Caribbean soil. The Afghans were one of the 12 teams that took part in the 2010 ICC World Twenty20 Tournament and have since made steady progress in the game.
“We are looking forward to welcoming the Afghans to the Caribbean for this short series,” said WICB Manager for Cricket Operations Roland Holder.
“The series promises to be compelling, considering the result of the match between the two sides at the last ICC World Twenty20 in India, and Afghanistan’s gradual improvement over the last few years.”
