Ballot Papers Reached Kabul: IEC

The Afghan election commission says it has received 11 million and 2 hundred ballot papers. The process of packing and transferring these papers to provincial offices of the commission will begin.

“A number of German instructors have been arrived in Kabul to teach the election commission staff the correct use of fingerprint apparatus on September 28,” said the election commission in a statement on Tuesday.

“All ballot papers and voting forms reached Kabul after they were printed,” said Abdul Aziz Ibrahimi, adding that “the plan to transfer sensitive and non-sensitive election materials to provincial offices through air and ground was finalized and it will be shared with the security institutions soon”.
Habib Rahman Nang, the head of election commission secretariat had previously said that these ballots will be printed at the UN’s expense in UAE.

Although the commission said that over 9 million voters have registered themselves for the presidential elections, the number of ballot papers printed is 16 percent higher than the number of voters. Election officials said given the situation, it was decided to print the number of ballot papers more than the number of voters.
The Afghan presidential election is expected to be held on 28 Sep. 2019, and 18 people have nominated themselves in this process.
