Casualties Feared as Provincial Samangan Compound Under Attack by Taliban

The Taliban detonated a car bomb near Samangan’s intelligence head quarter and municipality followed by gun battle between the armed men and the Afghan security forces.


Abdul Latif Ibrahimi, provincial governor told reporters that a car laden with explosives has detonated near offices of intelligence service and Aybak municipality followed by gunfire in the center of northern Samangan province.

Mohammad Seddiq Azizi, a spokesman for the provincial governor said that according to preliminary reports, more than 40 were evacuated to hospitals.
Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid in a statement claimed responsibility for the attack, saying that over 70 were killed or wounded in the attack.

The attack on capital of Samangan province comes as based on Doha agreement, the Taliban pledged not to attack big cities.
There is not any immediate exact information on the number of casualties yet.
