The chairman of election commission Abdul Bade Sayyad called on the government Saturday that besides fighting terrorism, it should prevent powerful people and the local commanders who are interfering in the national process.

Speaking at a conference of “Women’s participation in the election” in Kabul, Mr Sayyad said the influence of powerful people and local commanders in the election process is a challenge to this national process.
“In the past, the polling stations in many areas were at the personal houses of powerful individuals and local commanders which it had provided the ground for direct influence and intervention of these people in the elections,” he said. “this time the election commission has transferred all polling centers from personal houses to public places which it somehow decreased the influence of powerful people”.

Meanwhile, the Interior Minister Wais Ahmad Barmak said at the conference that the security forces will take special security measures for women in the electoral process.
Mr Barmak said the security plan to ensure the security of the elections, which is organized in three parts (providing the security of the voter registration process, the distribution of Tazkiras and the transfer of election materials), providing the security of the election day and the security of post-election processes with special attention to women is being implemented.
“The ANSF will take special measures to provide the security of women in the election,” Barmak said.
“The Interior Ministry in coordination with the election commission, security sectors and the Ministry of Women will create a joint commission to practically take special measures for the security of women,” he underlined.

It is worth mentioning that the voter registration process ended on Friday 6 June while some people in villages could not register themselves due to security issues and lack of electoral materials.

The election commission promised to provide the ground for those who missed this process due to various reasons.
