Roya Sadat Achieves International “Woman of Courage” Award

Afghan filmmaker Roya Sadat received the 2018 International Women of Courage Award which is presented annually by the United States Department of State.



Afghan filmmaker Roya Sadat received the 2018 International Women of Courage Award which is presented annually by the United States Department of State.

According to DID press agency, The US State Department hosted ten top ladies who received the courage award from the ministry on 23 March 2018.
The US first lady Melania Trump who had attended the ceremony praised the ten ladies for their efforts and courage in the fields of women rights, human rights and peace.
“The brave women who we praise today, are heroes,” said Melania Trump.

The award is given to women around the world who have shown leadership, courage, resourcefulness and willingness to sacrifice for others, particularly in women’s rights.
Sadat received an alternative Oscar award by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs earlier this month for her movie ‘A Letter to the President’.

Since the launch of the award in 2007, 120 women from over 65 countries have won this award.
Roya Sadat wants to bring positive changes to the lives of women and girls in Afghanistan by telling their unsurfaced tales.
Although Ms. Sadat faced with many problems and challenges in her professional work, these challenges could not prevent her activities.
