NYT: Strike on Iranian Water Facility Raises Legal Questions

DID Press: The New York Times reported that an analysis of satellite imagery and available video footage indicates that US strikes hit a water-related facility in Iran during recent military operations.

According to the newspaper, it remains unclear whether the facility was intentionally targeted or whether US forces were aware of the nature of the site at the time of the attack.

The report added that the deliberate targeting of civilian infrastructure could constitute a violation of the laws of armed conflict and, depending on the circumstances and legal findings, may amount to a war crime.

The newspaper did not state that such a legal determination had been made, but noted that intent and factual assessment would be central to any evaluation under international humanitarian law.
