UN Allocates $10 M in Emergency Aid for Afghanistan Quake Victims
DID Press: UN released $10 million in emergency funds to support relief efforts for victims of the recent earthquake in eastern Afghanistan, bolstering international humanitarian assistance to the affected areas. Several countries have also contributed cash and in-kind aid.

UN Secretary-General spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has allocated the funds for immediate relief operations in Afghanistan.
Countries around the world are also providing both financial and material support, including tents, food, medicine, and medical supplies. India has sent more than 1,000 tents, 15 tons of food, and medical equipment; the European Union has pledged €1 million and 130 tons of emergency relief; Iran, through its Red Crescent, has delivered 80 tons of flour and cooking oil, 4 tons of rice, and 900 hygiene kits. Australia has provided $1 million, while China has committed 50 million yuan in emergency aid for tents, food, and basic supplies. Russia and Japan have also dispatched shipments of food and essential items.
The powerful 6.0-magnitude quake struck on Sunday, September 1, 2025, in Kunar, Nuristan, Nangarhar, and Laghman provinces, leaving at least 2,205 people dead and more than 3,394 injured.
Officials have warned that the death toll could rise further.
