Afghan NSC Discussed Elections in Ghazni

President M. Ashraf Ghani chaired the National Security Council’s (NSC) meeting Wednesday morning at the presidential palace, and fully discussed elections in central Ghazni province.

According to a statement released by Arg, the meeting has tasked second VP and first deputy to the executive directorate to prepare a new plan, dividing Ghazni province into electoral constituency to the next NSC’s session for approval.
“The meeting ordered local organs and central statistics office to cooperate with deputies of the president and chief executive in this regard,” said the statement.

The parliamentary elections in Ghazni province was not held on October due to what is said people’s protests and expected to be held, simultaneously, with presidential elections in September. The representatives of Ghazni province at the 16th round of parliament, were all from a specific ethnic group which caused protests.

However, according to the electoral law, holding elections in several constituencies in a province is against the law.
