Repatriation of Afghan Migrants from Pakistan will Begin next Week

Officials at the ministry of refugees and repatriation vowed that the official repatriation of Afghan migrants will begin from Pakistan next week.
“The process of returning immigrants from Pakistan should be gradual and voluntarily,” said Hafiz Ahmad Miyakhel, press adviser to the ministry of refugees and repatriation.

“Returning migrants from Pakistan is one of the priorities of the government,” Mr. Miyakhel added, “the voluntary return process will resume in the coming days.”
This comes as president Ghani said weeks ago that all Afghan migrants in Pakistan would return to the country by next two years.

The UN High Commissioner said the other day that Afghan refugees must register to return to their country, otherwise, they will not be funded by the organization.

Currently, around one million immigrants are registered in Pakistan. But thousands of refugees have been forcefully deported from Pakistan over recent two years.

On the other hand, some government officials have repeatedly said that the Pakistani government has always used the immigrants and its ports as a means of political pressure against Afghanistan.

Some political experts consider the repatriation of migrants from Pakistan in line with Hekmatyar’s goals to achieve the parliamentary majority and toward power.
