Women Protest in Kabul over Elimination of Ministry of Women

Dozens of women gathered on Sunday in front of the Ministry of Women affairs in Kabul to protest the ministry dissolution.

These women chanted slogans such as “elimination of women is elimination of human beings”, “freedom and equality”, “our freedom of expression is the result of power”, and “let’s move towards prosperity by providing women with education, work, and freedom”.

Last week, the Taliban lowered down the plaque of the Ministry of Women’s Affairs in downtown Kabul and instead raised the plaque of the newly formed Ministry of Invitation, Guidance, Enjoining the Good and Forbidding the Evil.

The Taliban did not give a clear reason for dissolving the Ministry of Women Affairs, but said they are working on an alternative plan.
