Afghanistan Shia Ulema Council on Wednesday called on the people not to register or take ID cards until their security be provided, the Ulema Council said in a statement.

“The Council tells the honored nation of Afghanistan that Unfortunately, the NUG has failed and unsuccessful in providing the security of the people, specially in the recent incident. Every day, we witness the death of our oppressed and defenseless people due to the incompetence or negligence of the security officials,” Afghanistan Shia Ulema Council said in a statement. “We demand from all of the Muslim people of Afghanistan, especially those who have been advocates of religious democracy in the country not to participate in the election due to the growing insecurity in the country, until the government fully provide the security of the people. Because keeping people’s lives is more important than any other issue.”

The statement also accused the government of negligence in providing the security, calling on the security officials to provide the security in general and the voter registration process in particular.

“Afghanistan Ulema Council expresses regrets over the suicide attack in Kabul PD6 which according to reports, about 200 people were martyred and wounded and expresses condolence to the families of the victims, hoping a speedy recovery for the injured people in the recent incident as well the incidents in Badghis, Baghlan, Ghor, and Nangarhar provinces,” the statement added.

Security concerns have slowed the process of the registration process. After the elapse of 11 days since the beginning of the process, only more than 200,000 people registered themselves.
