“137,000 votes registered with the database were not ballot papers but they were the biometric information that was calculated,” said the head of IEC Hawa Alam Nuristani at a press conference on Thursday afternoon. “According to the electoral law, the IEC has a duty to audit and recount the result of votes if being suspicious,” she added.

The head of IEC says that the vote recount process has been completed in 26 provinces and it is ongoing in one province. “The process has not yet started in seven other provinces due to the candidates’ protest,” said Nuristani.
“We have held over 100 meetings with different campaign teams and all of them are aware of the commission’s actions,” Nuristani said

Meanwhile, in response to suspicions about the timing of the biometric devices, Mawlana Abdullah, an election commissioner said that the time of these devices was not up and running in the morning and had been set earlier.
It is worth mentioning that successive delays in announcing the preliminary results of the presidential election have resulted in citizens’ dissatisfaction with the functioning of the IEC.
